Speaking at the opening of the international conference 'Peace as a foundation, European integration as the future of Bosnia and Herzegovina', held in Sarajevo on 14 and 15 November, the Director of the Directorate for European Integration, Elvira Habota, pointed out that its title and key messages coincided with the reasons why BiH citizens supported EU accession.

According to public opinion polls conducted annually by the DEI, Director Habota explained, one of the two main reasons for supporting Bosnia and Herzegovina’s accession to the European Union is precisely that citizens see this process as a guarantee of lasting peace and political stability.

Director Habota also referred to the latest European Commission Report on Bosnia and Herzegovina for 2025,  and stated that there is room for progress in many areas, and that Bosnia and Herzegovina must once again focus its attention on adopting reforms.

“Only concrete results are the best argument for progress in this process, which—as I said at the beginning—the majority of citizens see as a guarantee of lasting peace and political stability,” Habota concluded.

The conference was organised by the Pan-European Union of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Human Brotherhood Foundation, marking 30 years of the Dayton Peace Agreement and 30 years of the Pan-European Union of BiH. Through four thematic panels, discussions were held on the legacy of peace, Euro-Atlantic integration, regional cooperation, and the perspectives of the Western Balkans in the future of Europe.
