Who we are
The Directorate for European Integration is a permanent, autonomous and professional body of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which coordinates the processes and activities of the institutions in the integration of BiH into the European Union.
Competences of the Directorate are related to the commitments stemming from the integration process, alignment of legislation with the acquis, financial assistance of the EU for BiH, translation of legislation and other documents, and communication and training for various target groups to provide institutional, professional and technical support to BiH integration into the EU.
The vision of the Directorate for European Integration is a membership of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the European Union, where the Directorate is a relevant, strong and reliable partner to all the institutions in BiH and the EU.
The Directorate for European Integration coordinates and monitors the activities and tasks in the process of integration of Bosnia and Herzegovina into the European Union and cooperates with ministries and other administrative bodies in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The competences are as follows:
® coordination of alignment of BiH legislation with the EU acquis,
® coordination and monitoring of the implementation of the decisions adopted by the competent authorities and institutions of BiH, of the Entities and of the Brčko District of BiH regarding fulfilment of obligations in the process of integration of BiH into the EU,
® coordination of the EU assistance to BiH,
® coordination of the process of translation of the acquis, legislation of BiH and other relevant documents,
® communication and organisation of training on the EU integration process.
The Directorate for European Integration participates in the activities of drafting laws, other legislation and guidelines related to the obligations stemming from the EU integration process. It is the main operational partner of the European Commission in the EU integration process.
With regard to the EU funds, the Directorate cooperates with the representatives of bilateral donors from the EU Member States and international organisations, and the participants from the civil society.
The Directorate cooperates with the Joint Commission for European Integration of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and with other committees for European integration of the parliaments in BiH.
The Directorate cooperates with representatives of academic and business community in BiH to implement the Communication Strategy for informing the public on BiH accession to the EU and to support capacity building of civil servants for integration in the EU.
The Directorate is the main operational partner of the European Commission in the EU integration process.
