Director Habota meets COWEB members
On 1 April 2025, Elvira Habota, the Director of the Directorate for European Integration, met with members of the Council of the European Union's Working Party on the Western Balkan Region (COWEB) in Sarajevo.
During the meeting, Director Habota provided an update to the COWEB members on the progress made by BiH institutions in implementing the eight steps outlined in the European Commission's Recommendation for granting candidate status to BiH, as well as the 14 key priorities identified in the European Commission's Opinion on BiH's EU membership application.
Particular emphasis was placed on the adoption of the Law on Border Control, the Law on Personal Data Protection, and the proposal for the Law on the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council (HJPC).
The discussion also covered the ongoing efforts by institutions to advance other key tasks essential for the adoption of the EU-BiH negotiation framework. This includes the preparation of the National Plan for the Adoption of the Acquis, the appointment of the chief negotiator and the negotiating team, as well as designation of the National IPA Coordinator.
