Director Habota paid working visit to Paris: Strengthening France's support is key to BiH's progress on the European path

Director of the Directorate for European Integration, Elvira Habota, paid a several-day working visit to the French Republic, and held a series of meetings with representatives of institutions in charge of European affairs, foreign policy and security.

During her visit, Director Habota met with Emmanuel Puisais-Jauvin, Secretary-General of the Secretariat-General for European Affairs, as well as with representatives of the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Aglaé Le Roux from the Cabinet of Minister Delegate for Europe, Arnaud Guilllois, Director for Continental Europe, and Vincent Guérend, Director for European Union. The visit included meetings with the representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Overseas Territories, Georges Salinas, Director of the Directorate for International Security Cooperation, Guillaume Le Blond, Head of Directorate for Europe and Mathieu Lefebvre, Head of Directorate for European and International Affairs.

Director Habota expressed her gratitude for France’s continued support, stressing that Bosnia and Herzegovina sees France as an important and strong partner on that path, and looks forward to further strengthening cooperation.

This was an opportunity to inform French partners first-hand about the activities undertaken by Bosnia and Herzegovina in the past period, in light of preparations for the new EC Report on Bosnia and Herzegovina expected in the autumn.

During the discussion, it was pointed out that exceptionally high 74.4% of citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina support membership in the European Union. It was emphasised that, while further progress and adoption of key reforms depend largely on political will and support of political actors, institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina are doing their part on technical and expert level to meet European priorities.

The two sides agreed that the period prior to the publication of the Report, must be fully capitalised on so that the BiH authorities can implement and adopt as many remaining obligations as possible.

French officials reiterated their support for the European perspective of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
