Journalists from Tuzla, Banja Luka, Mostar, and Sarajevo on study visit to Brussels
A group of journalists from Tuzla, Banja Luka, Mostar, and Sarajevo completed a multi-day study visit to Brussels, where they visited key European Union institutions and spoke with EU officials about their work, EU policies, and Bosnia and Herzegovina’s path towards European integration.
BiH journalists learned how EU institutional press services collaborate with the media and what audiovisual resources are available to support accurate and efficient reporting on EU-related topics.
The programme also provided opportunities to build new contacts within EU institutions as well as with regional correspondents based in Brussels. Journalists conducted interviews with Members of the European Parliament, including Ondřej Kolář, Rapporteur for Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Davor Ivo Stier, Chair of the EP Delegation for Bosnia and Herzegovina in the Stabilisation and Association Parliamentary Committee.
The group also met with Elvira Habota, Director of the Directorate for European Integration of BiH, who happened to be in Brussels for other engagements. She emphasised that the media are essential partners in communicating the EU integration process to the public.
“This study visit is important for several reasons, especially to highlight the need to invest in and financially support the media in covering these crucial topics. The visit was organised based on the needs expressed by journalists through various communication channels with the Directorate, and I sincerely hope it will contribute to a better understanding of the European Union, the enlargemen policy, and our European path,” said Habota.
Journalists also visited the Permanent Representation of France to the EU and the Mission of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the EU.
The study visit is part of the activities of the Directorate for European Integration aimed at strengthening the capacity of journalists in Bosnia and Herzegovina to report effectively on the country’s EU accession process. It was organised in cooperation with the Embassy of France in BiHand with financial support from the German Government through GIZ, within the project Cooperation of Public Institutions for EU Integration in BiH (CEI BiH).
