Recommendation is the first step and will be a strong argument for the EU Member States

“By giving a recommendation to open negotiations with Bosnia and Herzegovina, the European Commission sent two key messages to BiH citizens and authorities. The first one is that it is worthwhile to invest efforts and fulfil the priorities from the Opinion, and the second one is that the Commission is an important and reliable partner in the accession process.

The recommendation is the first step, and it will serve as leverage during discussions on the matter of opening negotiations with BiH at the meetings of the Council of the EU and the European Council next week.

BiH authorities and institution should not stop now but continue to work further and to provide an additional argument for a final political decision by the Member States. In that respect, I believe that the adoption of the Law on Courts, as the last in the set of currently most important tasks, would have a huge significance for a positive decision of the EU Member States on opening negotiations with BiH“, said the director of the Directorate for European Integration, Elvira Habota, on the occasion of the decision of the European Commission to recommend opening negotiations with BiH.
